Wolfson alumni honoured in King's Birthday Honours

The College extends our sincerest congratulations to Wolfson alumni Professor Lucy Rogers (1995) and Chief Constable Nick Dean (2012), who have been honoured in the King's Birthday Honours.

Professor Lucy Rogers has been awarded a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) for services to engineering. 

Lucy studied Design, Manufacture and Management at Wolfson from 1995-1997 and was elected a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering (FREng) in 2020. She is currently a Visiting Professor of Engineering, Creativity and Communication at Brunel University London, and outside of her academic work is known for being a judge on the BBC's Robot Wars series and for her book, It's Only Rocket Science: An Introduction in Plain English. Lucy is also a prolific inventor and her work ranges from solving animatronic problems with fibreglass dinosaurs to providing strategies for understanding and countering the increasing challenges of space debris in satellite operations.

Chief Constable Nick Dean, who studied Applied Criminology and Police Management at Wolfson from 2012-2015, has been awarded a Kings Police Medal (KPM), awarded to police in the United Kingdom for gallantry or distinguished service.

 With almost thirty years of police service, starting in Norfolk Constabulary in 1992, Nick was appointed as the Chief Constable at Cambridge Constabulary in September 2018. In his role as Chief, Nick is the NPCC Lead for Charging under the Criminal Justice Coordination Committee and NPCC Lead for Forensics under the Crime Coordination Committee.

Wolfson's President, Professor Jane Clarke, said of the news:

"I am thrilled and immensely proud to announce that two of our Wolves have been honoured in the King's Birthday Honours List. Their exceptional achievements and contributions exemplify the highest standards of excellence and education for which our College stands. This recognition not only celebrates their individual successes but also reflects the outstanding education and spirit of community fostered here at Wolfson."
